Over to The Crossroads Festival in Roubaix, Belgium from October 11, 2024 for a performance by Rosalie Cunningham.
Women Who Shred this morning. Rosalie Cunningham has had a wide-ranging career, but her solo work is what’s catching a lot of attention.
At the risk of “handing out the official bio” but wanting to give, if you aren’t familiar, an idea of who Rosalie Cunningham is – this is from her website and it makes for a good reference:
Multi award-winning singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Rosalie Cunningham (ex Purson/Ipso Facto) released her Mercury Music Prize nominated, self titled début album in 2019 through Esoteric Antenna, earning a Top 10 placing in the UK’s official independent chart and attracting fantastic reviews and stellar ratings from Classic Rock, Uncut, Mojo and Kerrang.
Rosalie built on her burgeoning reputation as an original and thought-provoking songwriter and musician with the release of her second solo album ‘Two Piece Puzzle’ (also through Esoteric Antenna) to universal acclaim in 2022. The Times – 4/5 ‘fantastic’; Powerplay – 10/10 ‘a heady mix … all infused with Rosalie’s unique ability to entertain and enthral the listener’; Shindig – 5/5 ‘sexy, loud and bursting with ideas’; Uncut – 8/10 ‘dazzling’.
During 2022 and 2023, an extensive and punishing touring schedule taking in venues and festivals throughout the UK and Europe gave audiences the opportunity to experience Rosalie’s compelling, captivating and charismatic live performance at first hand. These, together with the acclamation afforded to ‘Two Piece Puzzle’, culminated in her being named Female Vocalist of the Year in January 2023 by the readers of PROG magazine.
The amazing reaction to these exhilarating and dynamic live performances led to one of the more intimate shows on her September 2023 UK tour being recorded – ‘Live at Acapela’ was released as a CD by Machine Elf Records in December 2023.
2024 commenced with a hugely successful appearance at Fusion Festival in the UK, followed in April by a 17-date tour of Scandinavia and Europe taking in Sweden, Denmark, Germany, The Netherlands and Belgium. Rosalie returned to Sweden in June appearing at Muskelrock.
When her hectic touring schedule has allowed, Rosalie has been working on her third solo studio album, ‘To Shoot Another Day’. This is scheduled for release in Autumn 2024, again through Esoteric Antenna. The vinyl version of the album will be available exclusively through www.rosaliecunningham.com.
The first tracks released from ‘To Shoot Another Day’ were ‘Return of The Ellington’ and ‘Home’ – available as a limited edition 7” vinyl single exclusively through Rosalie’s website and digitally through Esoteric Antenna via all the usual streaming platforms.
“To Shoot Another Day” has since been released and has been accompanied by a lot of good reaction – her tour this year is pretty much confined to Europe. In addition to some excellent guitar work on her part, Rosalie Cunningham has a spine-tingling voice – all elements to a thoroughly enjoyable musical experience.
This gig from Rockpalast on October 11th is a dead giveaway.
Check it out for yourself.
