Over to Amsterdam by way of Paris this week for a concert by the Netherlands Radio Philharmonic, lead by much-sought-after guest Conductor Edward Gardner.

Very calm one this week – music by some old favorites. Alphons Diepenbrock is a name a lot of people aren’t familiar with, but he’s well worth investigating if you want to hear what a Dutch contemporary of Mahler was up to around the same time.
Perennial favorite Ravel with his often played Ma Mere l’Oye or Mother Goose Suite. But always a good stress-reliever.
And another favorite, who also happens to be celebrating 140 years this year. Rachmaninov with one of my favorites, Symphonic Dances.
All told – a good, relaxing set spread out over two players, guaranteed to make Rush Hour bearable.
