Taking Lunch down several notches today with a performance by Tsar B at the latest installment of Ancienne Belgique in Brussels on April 14th of this year.

Tsar B (pseudonym of Justine Bourgeus) is a Belgian musician, multi-instrumentalist, composer, and singer-songwriter and performance artist. Her music is known for transcending genres. She is active as a DJ under the name Star B.
In 2012, she joined the lineup of School is Cool , replacing violinist Nele Paelinck . With the band, she recorded the album Nature Fear , which was released in 2014. She also contributed to the follow-up Good News , which appeared in 2017, although she decided to pursue a solo career back in 2015. As Tsar B, she debuted on the Oscar and the Wolf cover single ” Back to Black ” by Amy Winehouse , which was recorded for the soundtrack of the crime film Black (2015).
In the same year, she released her solo debut single “Escalate.” In the summer of 2016, a first (untitled) EP followed , which was released on vinyl . In 2017, she released the single “Golddigger.” In early 2018, “Rattlesnake” was released, for which the video premiered at Dazed & Confused . Her debut album The Games I Played was released in October 2018. After a second EP, Unpaintable, in 2020, and a Salvador Dalí- inspired concert film, Live at Les Diners de Gala, in 2021, her second album, To the Stars, was released two years later. She performed at Big Next Festival , The Great Escape , and Pukkelpop , among others .
In 2025, 60 Belgian and Dutch artists released the compilation album Start Making Sense, featuring live performances , rare recordings, and alternative versions of previously released work. Tsar B also contributed to the album, with proceeds going to victims of the Gaza War .
Her music was featured in several seasons of So You Think You Can Dance in the United States and Greece . Choreographer Alexander Chung collaborated with Jade Chynowyth on a dance set to Tsar B’s music that had been viewed 10 million times on YouTube by 2017. Chung brought Tsar B’s work to the attention of the general public to such an extent that dance videos featuring her music went viral. Additionally, she composed and produced soundtracks for shows including Godvergeten , Assisen , De 42 kinderen van de goeroe , Samuels Travels , Leef!, and Season of Sex .
